NEW DELHI: Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke’s educational qualifications are under question with social media posts and podcast discussions doing the rounds claiming that he did not study at Boston University. The controversy has now been turned into a political issue, with Dipke saying he is ready to produce documents to establish his credentials.Dipke has publicly said he did a master’s degree in public relations at Boston University in the US. He has also been described as a Boston University student in court-related reporting and earlier profiles and said to have pursued a master’s in public relations. What caused the controversy? The latest row comes after questions were raised online about Dipke’s education. Separately, an RTI activist had earlier raised questions about the funding of Dipke’s studies abroad and sought scrutiny of his family’s finances. The activist wondered how his father, a junior engineer at the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC), could afford an American education.Dipke dismissed the idea that his education was financed through unexplained family wealth. He said during an interview to journalist Barkha Dutt that he financed his studies through a scholarship from Boston University and an education loan which he still has to repay. He also made a copy of the scholarship letter. So what does Dipke say now?Dipke said he was ready to present his Boston University degree and other documents in response to the latest accusations. He also framed it as a political challenge, asking whether Prime Minister Narendra Modi would also reveal his educational credentials. But what is actually checked?Publicly available reporting confirms that Dipke is a Boston University student and has publicly claimed to have obtained a master’s degree in public relations there. His own account mentions a university scholarship and education loan as sources of funding as well. But the most recent reports do not independently verify all aspects of his degree or funding outside of the documents and claims he has publicly provided. So the controversy is more about the political scrutiny of Dipke’s credentials, education funding and growing public profile as the CJP movement expands rather than a proven academic fraud.
