Noida: Police registered an FIR against a youth for abetment of suicide after the kin of the woman who killed herself alleged he harassed her.The accused, Monu (25), is a resident of Unnao in Uttar Pradesh and works as a labourer in Noida. The 24-year-old woman lived in Hoshiyarpur and worked as a domestic helper in the area. the two were in a relationship and lived together.The woman’s uncle filed a complaint with police alleging that the two were in a relationship and Monu had promised to marry his niece. But last year, Monu married another girl. When his niece confronted him, he verbally abused her and started harassing her on the phone.Following this, the woman grew mentally distressed, the complaint stated, and later died by suicide.Additional deputy commissioner Manisha Singh said that on the basis of the complaint, an FIR has been registered against the accused under 108 (abetment of suicide) of BNS.“Police also checked the woman’s phone and found she had made several calls to Monu before the suicide. Teams have been formed to nab the accused, but currently he is absconding,” the ADCP said.
