Chandigarh: The Aam Aadmi Party on Saturday slammed the Haryana government after a disturbing incident in Faridabad, where a labourer was forced to take his wife’s body home on a vegetable cart due to the unavailability of a government ambulance. The woman had died during treatment at a civil hospital, and her family could not afford a private ambulance that demanded Rs 700. Visuals of the couple’s 12-year-old son covering his mother’s body with a cloth drew widespread shock.AAP national media in-charge Anurag Dhandha said the incident reflected the “insensitive mindset” of the BJP government and chief minister Nayab Singh Saini. He said the episode exposed the condition of Haryana’s public healthcare system, which he claimed had failed the poorest citizens. Dhandha added that the doctors’ statement that there was “no arrangement to transport a dead body” showed government irresponsibility.He said the family had exhausted its savings on treatment, and the plight continued even after the woman’s death. At the cremation ground, they were asked to pay ₹5,500 for the last rites, compelling them to seek donations. Dhandha questioned how, in Haryana, “even death has become a burden” for the poor.Citing official figures, he said thousands of posts in the health department were vacant, leading to severe shortages of doctors, nurses and beds. Many ambulances, he added, were old or unfit to operate. He accused the government of showcasing hospitals on paper while failing to provide real services.AAP demanded that all vacant posts be filled, hospital infrastructure expanded and ambulance services strengthened to prevent such incidents in future.
