Margao: With the Ponda assembly constituency bypoll scheduled for April 9, AAP has stepped up efforts to consolidate its base. On Wednesday, AAP inducted prominent local businessman Geetesh Naik into the party in the presence of national convener Arvind Kejriwal.Naik, who hails from the Bahujan Samaj community and has over 15 years of social work to his credit, was previously associated with BJP. AAP sources indicated he is likely to be fielded as the party’s candidate for the bypoll, though a final decision is yet to be made.Kejriwal, addressing the occasion, said AAP was the only party that worked for the people and expressed confidence that the party would send its third MLA to the assembly from Ponda.The induction comes a week after former South Goa Mahila Congress district president Mamata Maben joined AAP, citing dissatisfaction with Congress’s internal functioning and the party’s neglect of her views on matters concerning her Ponda constituency.
