A digital town hall organised by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on the proposed E20 fuel policy generated significant online attention on Saturday, with the party claiming that more than seven lakh concurrent viewers watched the livestream on its official YouTube channel.

The online event was led by AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal. The viewership figures circulating online have been cited by AAP, while independent verification of the claimed numbers was not immediately available.

During the town hall, Kejriwal raised concerns about the nationwide rollout of E20 fuel and argued that consumers should have greater flexibility while choosing fuel for their vehicles. He urged the Centre to ensure the availability of both conventional petrol and E20 at fuel stations, reduce the price of conventional petrol and address concerns raised by vehicle owners.

The discussion featured participants including vehicle owners, mechanics and other stakeholders who spoke about issues such as vehicle compatibility, fuel efficiency, maintenance costs and the potential impact of higher ethanol blends on older vehicles.

The programme also sparked debate across social media platforms, where supporters described it as evidence of growing public engagement with fuel policy, while others argued that livestream viewership numbers alone do not necessarily reflect public opinion or political support.

The E20 fuel programme, which aims to increase ethanol blending in petrol, has become the subject of wider public discussion in recent months. Supporters of the policy highlight its potential environmental and energy security benefits, while critics have sought greater clarity on its impact on existing vehicles, fuel costs and consumer choice.
