Rajkot: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Tuesday caught an Aadhaar operator of the Bhavnagar Municipal Corporation (BMC) and a middleman for allegedly demanding and accepting a Rs 3,000 bribe to process corrections in an Aadhaar card.ACB caught Vijay Dabhi, 28, the operator, and Ashwin Bambhaniya, who acted as a middleman through his online service centre.Investigators said Bambhaniya operated an online service office that handled applications related to Aadhaar cards, PAN cards and other govt documents. During the probe, the ACB found that he was working in collusion with Dabhi to collect bribes ranging from Rs 2,000 to Rs 3,000 from applicants seeking corrections to their Aadhaar cards.Acting on the information, the ACB laid a trap using a decoy complainant. The complainant approached Bambhaniya for Aadhaar correction services and was asked to send the required documents through WhatsApp. He was then directed to meet Dabhi at the Aadhaar Card Centre in the BMC’s West Zone office, where the requested corrections were carried out.Following the pre-arranged plan, the complainant handed over the tainted Rs 3,000 to the accused. The ACB team immediately intervened and caught Dabhi red-handed while allegedly accepting the bribe. The trap team also recovered the Rs 3,000 from the spot.
