Jaipur: The Jaipur Municipal Corporation’s Mega Pet Carnival Sunday was more than a registration drive with dogs sporting personalised collar tags, free treats for pets and many strays finding new homes. Held at IDB, Durgapura, the event combined pet registration, free rabies vaccination and adoption, attracting thousands of pet owners throughout the day.

More than 2000 pet dogs and cats were registered during the carnival, while over 1000 pets received free anti-rabies vaccination. The event also led to the adoption of more than 50 stray dogs, giving many abandoned animals a chance to find permanent homes. One of the main attractions was an 8×4-foot pizza prepared especially for dogs.With a large turnout, the civic body appealed to pet owners to use the online registration facility to avoid bringing their pets into crowded spaces. Jaipur Municipal Corporation said it has upgraded the online registration portal, allowing residents to register their pets in less than five minutes with registration fee of Rs 1,000 plus GST. However, some visitors questioned why they had been asked to travel to the venue if the process could be completed online.Pet owner Nivedita Sarkar said, “It took me only five minutes to register my dog. The process was smooth and hassle-free. Along with free rabies vaccination, I also received free goodies for my dog and even got a personalised collar made. It is a wonderful initiative by the civic body.”Another pet owner, Shubhangi Yadav, who brought her cat to the event, said the registration would help pet owners avoid unnecessary disputes. “In many housing societies, residents threaten to complain that the pet is not registered. Now we have legal proof of registration,” she said.JMC Commissioner Om Kasera said the campaign aims to encourage rabies vaccination and make pet registration easier for residents. “Our goal is to make Jaipur a rabies-free city by ensuring that more pet dogs are vaccinated,” he said. The civic body has also removed the earlier requirement of sterilisation for pet registration, saying its immediate priority is to maximise pet registration and rabies vaccination.Residents can register their pets till Sept 30, failing which the owners of unregistered pets may face a fine of up to Rs 5,000.
