Mapusa: Drinking water minister Subhash Phaldessai inaugurated a 15MLD additional water treatment plant in Chandel on Tuesday costing Rs 30 crore, to alleviate Pernem taluka’s water woes.“We intend to provide a regular water supply for at least eight hours in the future. We also plan to reduce govt-owned borewells and make the taluka completely tanker-free,” Phaldessai said.He also stated that people who gave up their lands for the project would be adequately compensated.Locals complained that they do not receive regular water supply, despite the village being part of the Chandel water project network. They have to rely on a tanker.“Despite repeated reports to the authorities, our requests have been ignored. If supply is not restored soon, we will march to the water department office” said a panch member Diwakar Jadhav..
