Mapusa: A spilled drink spiraled into a violent confrontation at a bar in Chapora during the early hours of April 16, leaving six from Manipur injured and resulting in cross-complaints.Anjuna police have registered an offence against the bar staff following a complaint by Ngaoveine Kyapaomai, alleging a brutal assault using baseball bats and glass bottles.Police said the altercation began around 12.30am when a waiter accidentally spilled alcohol on a customer.Police said the situation turned hostile after the youths allegedly retaliated by hurling abuses and threw a drink at the waiter.While the group initially left, they returned shortly after with more people. The confrontation then turned physical, with the bar staff allegedly using wooden benches, fist blows, and baseball bats to assault the group.A 19-year-old D Pahrii sustained a severe nasal fracture and facial injuries, while five others — D Khohriilou (24), Graceson Gangmel (25), Merangchiba Walling (26), Shimmei Awungshi (24), and Somatai Zimik (27) — suffered different injuries.All victims were treated at the North Goa district hospital.The incident gained attention after images of the injured circulated on social media, prompting police intervention. The accused bar staffers have been booked under BNS Sections 181 (1) voluntarily causing hurt using dangerous weapons or means, 351 (3) aggravated criminal intimidation, punishing threats of death, grievous hurt, arson and section 352 r/w 3 (5) intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace.While the bar staff has filed a counter-complaint alleging vandalism, police have issued notices to the accused employees to join the ongoing investigation.
