T’puram: The special investigation team (SIT) probing the Sabarimala gold scam questioned former Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) president P S Prashanth and former board member Ajikumar as part of the ongoing investigation on Monday. This is the third time the SIR has questioned Prasanth. Investigators sought clarifications regarding the removal of a gold-plating component in 2025, focusing on the circumstances under which it was taken and whether due procedures were followed. Both Prashanth and Ajikumar appeared before the SIT, where their statements were formally recorded. They were later allowed to leave. Officials indicated that Prashanth was questioned in connection with both the gold-plating case and the related dwarapalaka idols case. Ajikumar, on the other hand, was questioned primarily to gather details about his association with Unnikrishnan Potti, the first accused in the case. The SIT is examining whether there were any irregularities or undue links in the handling of temple valuables. A key focus of the probe is whether the gold-plating structure was removed during Prashanth’s tenure as TDB president without obtaining the required court permission, and if any procedural violations or anomalies were involved. Sources said the latest round of questioning is part of efforts to establish clarity before the filing of the chargesheet. The SIT is expected to consolidate statements and material evidence to determine the next course of action in the case.
