Silchar: Cachar police have busted a theft racket in Silchar, recovering stolen mobile tower batteries, a motorcycle, and gold ornaments, and arresting several accused following an overnight operation, officials said on Saturday.The operation was conducted under the supervision of deputy SP (Cachar) Bhaskar Shikha Saikia. Acting on specific intelligence inputs, police carried out a series of raids at multiple locations, leading to the arrest of suspected members of the racket.However, police have not mentioned the number of persons arrested in this connection. Police said 17 mobile tower batteries, a stolen motorcycle, and several gold ornaments were recovered during the raids. The seized items are estimated to be of significant market value.Preliminary investigation indicates that an organised gang had been operating in the region for some time, allegedly involved in the theft of mobile tower batteries, two-wheelers, and gold ornaments across different areas.Officials said further interrogation of the accused is expected to reveal more details about the network and its possible links to similar cases in the district.A case has been registered, and efforts are underway to trace other members of the racket, police added.
