oimbatore: A 45-year-old man attempted self-immolation near the busy Gandhipuram bus stand here on Saturday evening. He is battling for life with 72% burn injuries at Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital (CMCH).Police identified the injured as Muthuvel, a daily wage labourer who stayed on roadsides. “He came near Gandhipuram bus stand in the evening and doused himself with the thinner he was carrying before setting himself ablaze,” a police officer said. Passers-by who witnessed the incident rescued him and informed the 108 ambulance service. He was rushed to CMCH, where his condition is said to be critical. The Kattoor police have registered a case and are investigating.
