A meeting of the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) was held at Isru Bhawan here on Saturday wherein it was alleged that the Union government was trying to remove Punjab’s representation from various institutions, mainly BBMB (Bhakra Beas Management Board). The SKM members said it was decided that a delegation would meet governor Gulab Chand Kataria on April 24 in this regard. More than 20 farmer organisations participated in the meeting. After the meeting, senior SKM leader Ruldu Mansa said the Central government was trying to remove Punjab’s representation from various institutions so that it could take decisions unilaterally. Farmer leaders alleged that the Centre’s move is aimed at gaining control over Punjab’s water resources and added that they would not allow this “attempt” to succeed.Meanwhile a number of protestors, pensioners of Punjab Powercom staged protest at Aarti Chowk causing traffic chaos in the area. SHO Division Number five police station, Inspector Sukhjinder Singh said the protestors went away after submitting their memorandum of demands to the additional deputy commissioner.
