Kolkata: The maximum temperature dropped slightly in the city on Wednesday. But high moisture continued to unleash heat and humidity. Certain weather conditions are expected to trigger a nor’wester spell on Thursday, the Met office, which is keeping a close tab on the weather condition, predicted. “The possibility of a nor’wester spell in Kolkata and some other districts on Thursday is increasing. The thunderstorm is expected to be accompanied by gusty wind, and the intensity could be a slightly more in the northern fringes like Dumdum,” said Regional Meteorological Centre Kolkata head, HR Biswas. Met officials said there was increasing moisture incursion at the lower level with heat. These trigger nor’wester. While the maximum temperature of 35.1 degrees was slightly lower than the normal mark, the discomfort level was high due to the increasing moisture content in the air. The Met officials said both the mercury and the humidity level would dip once the nor’wester spell strikes city, ensuring a temporary respite from the hot and humid weather.
