Coimbatore: An election flying squad team seized gold, diamond and silver ornaments worth Rs10.18 crore in Singanallur assembly constituency on Wednesday.According to an official source, the seizure was made during a vehicle check near Codissia area. “The team stopped a tempo traveller for vehicle check and found it was transporting gold, diamond and silver ornaments without valid documents. They seized the consignment and handed it over to the treasury located at Coimbatore South taluk office.” Pointing out that the tempo traveller belonged to Sequel Logistics, the source said the vehicle was being driven by Athiveerapandian. “He said the logistics firm was involved in delivering gold and other metals to jewellers. The vehicle was transporting 6kg of gold and diamond, and 8.47kg of silver. The entire value of the consignment is pegged at Rs10,18,21,008.” He said the seized items would be returned to the firm after the verification of documents. “If they fail to produce relevant documents, officials will retain the seized items.”
