NEW DELHI: Delhi Police has recorded statements of both sides in connection with the alleged racial abuse of three women from Arunachal Pradesh by a couple in south Delhi’s Malviya Nagar. They will also send the videos for forensic analysis to determine if there was any tampering.According to police, the incident took place around 3.30pm on Friday, when the women were getting electrical installation work done at their rented accommodation, and some dust allegedly fell on the premises of the couple living on the floor below, leading to an argument. The incident came to light after a video of the altercation surfaced on social media on Sunday.The complainants, one of whom is a UPSC aspirant, alleged that the couple had ma-de derogatory and racially offensive remarks, insulted their modesty and issued threats. No physical injuries were reported, said a police officer.A case was registered against the couple at Malviya Nagar police station under sections 79 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman), 351 (criminal intimidation), 3(5) (common intention) and 196 (promoting enmity between different groups on the ground of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc, and doing acts prejudicial to the maintenance of harmony) of BNS.Meanwhile, the man told the media that they were cooperating with Delhi Police and felt ashamed. He said he was not normally such a person, but it had happened in the heat of the moment. He also urged social media users to consider both sides of the story.
