Guwahati: Assam assembly speaker Biswajit Daimary on Monday rejected an adjournment motion moved by AIUDF MLA Aminul Islam seeking a discussion on alleged recent provocative remarks by CM Himanta Biswa Sarma against a particular community, prompting AIUDF legislators to walk out of the House.Rejecting the motion, Daimary said, “The topic is important; but it can be discussed during the motion of thanks of the governor’s address. You can raise your points then and the CM can also answer your queries.”
He also cited the day’s legislative business, saying the motion could not be taken up as a vote on account was to be presented. “Accordingly, I reject the adjournment motion,” Daimary said.Moving the motion, Islam alleged the chief minister was directly “inciting” people against a particular community with his “provocative statements”.He said, “Because of his statements, some miscreants have started torturing the people of the particular community, mostly in Upper Assam. Some have been physically attacked and asked to leave their workplaces.”
