Times News networkLudhiana: Two young occupants of a BMW car had a miraculous escape early Tuesday morning after their vehicle crashed into an electric transformer in Upkar Nagar, causing the car to be engulfed in flames. The incident occurred around 4am near Pahwa dharamshala. According to witnesses, the vehicle collided with a 200 MVA transformer with such force that the structure collapsed onto the car’s bonnet. The impact triggered an immediate fire.The situation turned critical when the car’s front doors allegedly jammed, momentarily trapping the two youngsters inside as flames began to spread. However, they managed to scramble into the rear of the vehicle and exit through the back doors just before the fire intensified.Morning walkers who witnessed the crash alerted the fire department and local police. By the time emergency services arrived, the vehicle was heavily damaged by fire. Interestingly, the occupants reportedly fled the scene shortly afterwards.Division Number 8 police have initiated an investigation to determine the exact circumstances behind the high-impact crash.Power woes ensueThe accident also resulted in challenges for local residents and Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL). The local residents expressed their frustration for suffering long hours without any power supply since the late evening hours from the early morning hours, right after the accident.PSPCL officials said it took around eight to 10 hours for making necessary repairs to resume the power supply.
