Patna: A head-on collision between a bus and a car claimed lives of two people in Paru police station area of Muzaffarpur district. Three also sustained injuries in the accident.The deceased were identified as Bhanu Pratap Dwivedi, a resident of Bahuara Lakshmipur and Omprakash Kumar of Mathiya in West Champaran district. Both were travelling in the car that had registration number of Delhi.The accident took place on Lalu Chhapra Road under Paru police station area on Tuesday morning, when a bus that was going from Bettiah to Patna, attempted to overtake another vehicle. In the process, the bus veered into another lane and collided head-on with the approaching car. The collision was so intense that the front portion of the car was completely destroyed. The bus driver fled the spot after the crash.Hearing the sound of loud crash, locals gathered and tried to rescue people trapped in the car. Upon receiving the information, local police, with the help of local residents, retrieved the bodies after considerable effort. The bodies were sent to the SKMCH for the postmortem. The injured were admitted to the nearby hospital.A search operation is underway to trace and arrest the absconding bus driver, SHO of Paru police staion Alok Kumar Yadav said. “Preliminary investigation points to the overtaking attempt as the primary cause of the accident,” he said.
