Chennai: The Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has dusted off one of its old projects to develop a commercial complex with premium retail and office space on 100 Feet Road near Arumbakkam metro station. Though the project was initially announced in 2019 along with another similar development in Ekkaduthangal, it was shelved due to lack of interest. However, there is renewed interest in premium office spaces in the city, and hence the project was revived, said officials. Now, CMRL has floated tenders for the commercial complex in Arumbakkam.
It will construct a high-rise commercial complex with a stilt and a seven-storey building, a basement as well as a four-tier mechanical car parking system. The land parcel measuring 1,660.34sqm, situated in a mixed residential and commercial area, will be built up as a commercial development, said CMRL project director T Archunan.Located behind the existing Arumbakkam metro station, this will be the second commercial development to be executed on the existing Phase I network of CMRL after Alandur, where a seven-storey building is set to come up. CMRL also roped in a third-party transactional adviser to decide on the portion of commercial, retail, and office space in the building, similar to other big-ticket commercial developments underway.
