Chandrapur/Amravati: In a turning point in the lives of 20 children, district administrations in Chandrapur and Amravati cleared adoption cases in rare one-day disposals, though on different dates, ensuring each child the legal security of a family. In Chandrapur, 11 long-pending adoption matters, including those for three orphaned children, were finalised at once on Oct 5. One of the orphaned children has been adopted by parents from Malta in Europe, while the other two will join families in Hubballi, Karnataka, and Thane, Maharashtra. The remaining eight orders covered four intra-family adoptions and four step-parent adoptions, giving all 11 children formal recognition and protection under the adoption framework. The orders were issued by collector Vasumana Pant after the cases were transferred from the district court to her office following a Bombay High Court order dated May 4, 2026. The District Child Protection Unit scrutinised each case before the prospective parents appeared to complete formalities. In Amravati, district collector and magistrate Ashish Yerekar passed adoption orders in nine cases on Oct 22, after examining the children’s best interests, the eligibility of prospective adoptive parents, documentation, and legal requirements.“Every child deserves to grow up in a safe, loving and permanent family. Adoption gives a child’s life a new direction. The district administration is committed to disposing of eligible cases in time by giving priority to the best interests of the child,” Yerekar said. The process was completed through coordinated efforts of district women and child development officer Sanjay Gat, district child protection officer Ajay Dabale, child protection officer Bhushan Kaware and superintendent of the Specialized Adoption Agency, sister Treeza, along with their teams. Dabale said every adoption case is handled with the utmost sensitivity.Amendments to the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act in 2021 vested district magistrates with the power to pass final adoption orders. Bombay High Court, in its May 4 order in a challenge to the provision, upheld the validity of the amended law and the related provisions under the Adoption Regulations, 2022.The move is expected to reduce delays faced by prospective adoptive parents and children awaiting legal finalisation of their new family arrangements.
