Mansa: Anti-drug activist Parwinder Singh Jhota’s father, ex-serviceman Bhim Singh, has sought Union home minister Amit Shah’s intervention to tackle Punjab’s drug menace and ensure justice for his son, who exposed alleged drug sales through Facebook Live broadcasts. In a memorandum containing six demands, a copy of which TOI exclusively accessed, Bhim Singh sought the resignation of chief minister Bhagwant Mann and Punjab DGP on moral grounds, a CBI probe into his son’s murder and the alleged drug mafia nexus, action against cross-border and interstate trafficking, stricter laws to curb Pregabalin and pharmaceutical drug abuse, and a medical college and sports university in his son’s memory.Bhim Singh said his son had actively campaigned against drugs and the illegal sale of pharmaceutical medicines, particularly Pregabalin capsules. Through Facebook Live broadcasts, Jhota allegedly exposed drug sellers and confronted chemist Ashwani Kumar over the sale of Pregabalin without a prescription. The family has raised concerns over the investigation and alleged that drug networks may have enjoyed political and police protection. It has sought an independent inquiry into the conduct of police officers suspected of shielding such networks, including an officer of SP rank. The memorandum calls for a probe into the alleged conspiracy behind Jhota’s death, including the motive, suspected financiers and possible involvement of drug traffickers or their protectors. It also seeks examination of his Facebook Live disclosures about the alleged nexus between politicians, police and the drug trade.Bhim Singh has sought an investigation into the illegal sale and diversion of de-addiction medicines through centres in Mansa and elsewhere in Punjab. He has also demanded that assets and proceeds allegedly linked to the drug trade be identified and proceeded against under the law, without exempting politicians, police officers or influential businesspeople from scrutiny. The memorandum also calls for coordinated action to curb the smuggling of drugs and illegal weapons through drones across the Pakistan border. It seeks measures to prevent drug trafficking through maritime routes, including Mundra port, and to identify and prosecute interstate networks supplying narcotics to Punjab.“We do not seek sympathy alone; we seek an independent investigation, accountability of those responsible and decisive action against the networks destroying Punjab’s youth,” Bhim Singh said in the memorandum.
