Chandigarh: Haryana chief minister Nayab Singh Saini on Sunday said restoring Punjab’s economy and ensuring citizens’ security were essential to achieving ‘Ram Rajya’ as envisioned by Maharishi Valmiki.Addressing a Vishal Tirth Yatra in Jalandhar to mark Bhagwan Valmiki Prakatotsav, Saini called for collective efforts to build a fearless, drug-free and prosperous society, while criticising Punjab’s governance and law-and-order situation.“The primary purpose of governance is to serve those at the lowest rung of society,” he said, adding that a true tribute to Bhagwan Valmiki would be to protect young people from drug addiction and provide them quality education and employment.Taking aim at the Punjab govt, Saini said a “lack of direction and foresight” in state policies was pushing young people towards despair and addiction. He claimed deteriorating law and order and administrative disorder had left citizens, farmers, workers and youth disillusioned.Drawing a contrast with Haryana, Saini cited welfare schemes, including Ayushman Bharat healthcare coverage for 40 lakh people, housing for two lakh families and monthly assistance of Rs 2,100 to women.Describing Haryana and Punjab as “two arms of the same body”, Saini urged Punjab’s people to support politics centred on good governance, development and transparency.
