Srinagar, October 17: The Srinagar Traffic Police will launch a special enforcement drive over the next two to three days against wrongly parked vehicles and motorcycles causing congestion across the city, Senior Superintendent of Police (Traffic City) Bisma Qazi said on Friday.
She said indiscriminate parking reduces the effective width of roads, obstructs the smooth flow of traffic and causes inconvenience to commuters, particularly during peak hours.
As part of the drive, vehicles found parked in violation of traffic rules will be towed away and shifted to designated yards. The action aims to curb unauthorised parking, strengthen traffic discipline and ensure the smooth movement of vehicles across Srinagar.
SSP Qazi said the drive was intended to improve traffic management, enforce the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act and ensure that public roads and other spaces are not obstructed by improperly parked vehicles.
She emphasised that the initiative was aimed at facilitating commuters and reducing unnecessary delays caused by traffic violations. Motorists were urged to park only in designated spaces and cooperate with traffic personnel during the enforcement drive.
The SSP also cautioned citizens against the growing threat of cyber fraud linked to traffic challans, urging motorists to verify the authenticity of e-challans through official platforms before making payments.
She warned people to remain vigilant against fraudulent messages, phishing links and fake payment requests that may appear to be issued by traffic authorities. Motorists were advised not to click on suspicious links or share personal, banking or other sensitive information through unverified channels.
The Traffic Police appealed to citizens to follow parking regulations, cooperate with enforcement teams and exercise caution while dealing with online challan notifications to avoid falling victim to cyber fraud.
