Pune: Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University (YCMOU) has launched a one-year online diploma in educational research offered in Marathi. The diploma will be offered in Marathi through an online, self-learning format, allowing teachers to pursue the course alongside their professional responsibilities. Graduates from any discipline will be eligible for admission, with primary school teachers and those working in rural areas expected to benefit in particular.YCMOU has signed a memorandum of understanding with Pune-based educational organisation Supermind for the development and implementation of the programme. “Many teachers in Maharashtra are already experimenting with innovative approaches to improve student learning. They continuously work to address classroom challenges and help students progress. This course will help them scientifically evaluate their initiatives, the solutions they develop and the learning outcomes of students,” said YCMOU vice-chancellor Sanjeev Sonawane. The curriculum will cover research methodology, data collection and analysis, and report writing. It will equip teachers to identify difficulties faced by students during classroom learning, examine the effectiveness of teaching methods and assess whether classroom interventions are improving learning outcomes. The programme is also expected to help teachers evaluate educational initiatives they undertake in their schools and document the results through structured research, rather than relying solely on observation or personal experience.
