Ponda: Vendors of Palika Bazaar refused to shift to a temporary location arranged by the Ponda Municipal Council (PMC) and insisted they be accommodated in and around the market complex. At least 50 vendors, including Gharu Sawant, Shambhu Naik and Sandesh Naik met Bhimnath Khorjuvekar, chief officer of Ponda municipality, with their request.Vendors said some vendors from the Palika Bazaar shifted to the open area along the approach road during the Covid-19 pandemic and suffered losses.Khorjuvekar assured vendors he would raise their demands before the council. A fresh survey will assess if all 187 vendors can be accommodated in the open space.“Our last survey showed that not all vendors can be adjusted there,” he said.PMC will have to relocate all vendors from the Palika Bazaar to rebuild the complex. As an alternate arrangement, the council would build a temporary shed on its land along the approach road.Goa State Urban Development Agency (GSUDA) will build the council complex and also demolish the dilapidated fish market. The fish market will be part of the proposed Palika Bazaar complex.
