Srinagar, October 10 : The Department of Floriculture, Gardens and Parks in Jammu and Kashmir has generated a cumulative revenue of ₹62.76 crore over five reporting periods, from 2021–22 to November 2025, through entry tickets, permissions for videography and video shooting, and the sale of plant material, according to official figures.
The department recorded revenue of ₹6.70 crore in 2021–22, ₹13.46 crore in 2022–23, ₹14.35 crore in 2023–24 and ₹23.71 crore in 2024–25. During the current financial year, 2025–26, revenue stood at ₹4.54 crore up to November 2025.
The figures show a steady increase in annual revenue over the four completed financial years, with the highest collection of ₹23.71 crore recorded in 2024–25. The cumulative amount of ₹62.76 crore covers all five reporting periods and does not represent revenue generated in a single financial year.
Meanwhile, official data indicate that 11,889 growers are registered with the department across Jammu and Kashmir, of whom 2,270 are actively engaged in commercial flower cultivation. The total area under commercial floriculture has been reported at 356.41 hectares.
The department maintains 278 gardens, parks and lawns spread across 10,628.30 kanals of land in the Union Territory. These green spaces are among Jammu and Kashmir’s major tourism attractions, drawing visitors with their landscaped lawns, seasonal flowers, historic architecture and scenic surroundings.
Among the prominent sites maintained by the department are the world-famous Tulip Garden and the historic Mughal gardens of Nishat, Shalimar, Pari Mahal and Chashme Shahi, along with Verinag and Achabal gardens. The department also maintains botanical gardens, including the Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Botanical Garden at Chashme Shahi and the Botanical Garden at Kokernag, besides lawns at important government establishments.
Visitor statistics provided in the official figures indicate that 60.48 lakh people visited the department’s gardens and parks in 2022–23, while the number increased to 65.74 lakh in 2023–24. The gardens recorded 61.38 lakh visitors in 2024–25. During 2025–26, 48.01 lakh visitors were recorded up to the end of November 2025.
In a bid to diversify the region’s floral tourism offerings and extend the tourism season beyond spring, the first-ever Chrysanthemum Garden, known as Bagh-e-Gul-e-Dawood, was opened to tourists in October 2025.
The garden features more than 50 varieties of chrysanthemums and has been developed to promote autumn tourism by offering visitors another seasonal attraction.
While the Tulip Garden remains a major draw during the spring season, Bagh-e-Gul-e-Dawood is intended to strengthen Kashmir’s appeal in autumn and encourage tourism beyond the traditional spring flowering period.
