Vadodara: A man detained under GujCTOC, Mohsin Mindi, escaped from the state-run Sir Sayajirao General (SSG) Hospital on Saturday after allegedly giving his police guards the slip on a trip to the toilet.The escape triggered a search involving Vadodara crime branch, police control branch (PCB) and local police. Police are also examining CCTV footage from the hospital to trace Mindi.Mindi was brought to SSG Hospital on Saturday and admitted to the M-4 ward on the fifth floor of the emergency building. According to preliminary information, he had been handcuffed to his hospital bed as part of the security arrangements.When he sought permission to use the washroom, the police personnel on guard let him free, enabling him to escape.Mindi is among those accused in cases linked to the Mindi gang of Surat, against which police have invoked the GujCTOC Act for alleged organised criminal activities. Members of the gang have been booked in several serious cases, including murder, attempt to murder, firing, illegal possession of weapons, extortion and attacks on police personnel, in Surat.
