Madhepura: A 12-year-old boy was allegedly hacked to death by a man in Madhepura district on Saturday. The accused was later beaten to death by villagers who caught him near the crime spot. The boy, Sumit Kumar, was the son of Sunil Thakur and a resident of ward 2 of Itahri village under Ghailadh police station. The accused, Anil Yadav, 45, was a resident of neighbouring Barahi village.According to preliminary probe, Sumit had gone to a culvert near a neighbouring village with two friends to defecate when Yadav allegedly attacked him with a sharp-edged weapon and slit his throat. The two other boys managed to escape and alerted their families and other villagers.Villagers rushed to the spot and found Sumit critically injured. Yadav allegedly attacked some villagers who tried to intervene, following which he was severely beaten and he died at the spot.Police reached the spot after being alerted. Madhepura SDPO Ajay Kumar said both bodies were sent to Sadar Hospital in Madhepura for postmortem. “Police are investigating the circumstances leading to the incident and the motive behind the boy’s killing,” the SDPO said.
