Dibrugarh: Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) general manager Chetan Srivastava on Friday laid the foundation stone for a model railway colony in Dibrugarh.Model Kalibari Railway Colony, estimated to cost around Rs 50 crore, will comprise 210 modern staff quarters and is scheduled for completion within two years.The foundation stone was laid at the existing railway colony opposite Dibrugarh Town Railway Station in the presence of Parag Katre, divisional railway manager of Tinsukia Division, and other senior railway officials.Srivastava said the colony would be developed over approximately 32,000 square metres with modern infrastructure and amenities for railway employees.“The project aims to provide better residential facilities to railway employees. We are planning 210 staff quarters with modern amenities, and the work is expected to be completed within two years,” he said.Srivastava added that Dibrugarh Town Railway Station was expected to resume operations within the next two months.He said railway electrification work on the section had been completed, paving the way for more modern train services.“Passengers can look forward to seeing Vande Bharat services in Dibrugarh. However, the introduction will depend on coach availability and the preparedness of the necessary infrastructure,” he said.NFR is also exploring improved parking infrastructure. Srivastava said railway land had been provided for a multi-storey parking facility to address parking needs in the growing city.
