According to the latest Election Commission data, BJP’s Nandigram candidate Hasi Rani Rath won the seat, defeating Congress nominee Milan Pradhan, supported by former CM Mamata Banerjee, after 15 rounds of counting.
“All records have been broken by a BJP candidate Hasi Rani Rath in Nandigram. Rath has broken my records which was highest till date with 82,000 vote margin in 2016,” West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari had won Nandigram in the 2026 Assembly polls held earlier this year. He had vacated the seat, retaining Bhawanipore seat, where he defeated former CM Mamata Banerjee.
BJP candidate Hasi Rani Rath is the mother of Adhikari’s slain PA Chandranath Rath. The Left Front candidate Santi Gopal Giri is at a distant third .
Adhikari claimed the minority community “has found a friend in BJP in both Rejinagar and and they voted for us and minority women, who got Annapurnar Yojana, have voted for us in large numbers, with their families”. He expressed confidence in winning all 42 seats in 2029 Lok Sabha polls and two significant Kolkata and Howrah Municipal polls after the festive season.

While speaking at the state secretariat, Adhikari said the BJP’s performance in the two seats reflected a change in the political outlook of minority voters. “We could win in Rejinagar because minorities voted for us. They have found friends in us and have understood that they were misled,” the chief minister said.Adhikari said it has been proved that the minority community in the state will no longer be misled by the “malicious” opposition campaign, hinting at Mamata Banerjee, and accusing the BJP of being a communal force.
Meanwhile, Nandigram Congress candidate Milan Pradhan, who was in the second position in Nandigram, said, “Today is Black Day in Nandigram. Voting did not happen.”
Hasirani Rath, the BJP candidate said, “It was her political party’s victory and BJP wanted to increase the margin.”
In Nandigram, DTMC candidate Ehteshmul Haque secured very votes, suggesting that the faction’s attempt to establish an independent electoral foothold had yet to translate into substantial support in either constituency. All these data till the time of reporting.
Shankharavh Sarkar, the BJP candidate from Rejinagar, received 129914 votes and defeating his near contestant AJUP’s Golam Nabi Azad, who received . Sarkar said, “This victory is my workers’ victory. I owe this to people’s victory and Dr Syma Prasad Mookherjee’s victory.
In Rejinagar, Congress nominee Abdullahil Kafi was at a distant third while trailed by Mamata All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) candidate Rabiul Alam Chowdhury.
“Minorities have voted in large numbers because they want to stand with the government,” Adhikari said.
No violence was witnessed during the bypolls and they were conducted peacefully, contrasting them with incidents of violence being reported, he said.
