Mangaluru: South Western Railway (SWR) general manager P Ananth inspected railway stations and operational facilities in Mangaluru on Friday, following the transfer of the area to SWR’s Mysuru division on Oct 1.Ananth, accompanied by Mysuru divisional railway manager Mudit Mittal and other senior railway officials, visited Mangaluru Central, Mangaluru Junction, Panambur and Jokatte.The inspection covered train operations, safety arrangements, maintenance, manpower availability, passenger amenities and coordination between departments.The general manager reviewed the preparedness of field units and discussed requirements relating to manpower, infrastructure and other essential facilities with railway staff.He directed officials to address these requirements in a timely manner, and emphasised the need to maintain safety, punctuality and operational efficiency.Ananth also met Dakshina Kannada MP Capt Brijesh Chowta to discuss pending railway infrastructure works and connectivity demands in the region.During the meeting with Chowta, the discussions covered level crossings between Padil and Subrahmanya Road, a proposed railway station at Farangipet, expediting platform works at Puttur, the Pandeshwar railway crossing and the possibility of establishing a railway station near Mangaluru airport.In a post on X, Chowta stated that he had discussed the need to expedite ongoing works and address long-pending public demands to strengthen rail connectivity and improve passenger convenience in Dakshina Kannada.The Mysuru divisional administration in its release said it was monitoring the functioning of the newly integrated area and taking measures to ensure smooth railway operations, safety, effective maintenance and quality passenger services.
