Ahmedabad: The state education department has issued transfer and change-of-charge orders for 63 Class-II officers, triggering discussions over the timing and nature of several postings. The orders include the transfer of around 11 officers from administrative positions in district or state offices to schools as principals, while nine officers currently serving as school principals have been assigned to Gujarat Council of Educational Research and Training (GCERT) with a change in duties.Sources said the department had undertaken a large-scale reshuffle of Class-II officers around 10 months ago. At that time, several education inspectors working in district offices were transferred to schools and given charge as principals. However, some of these officers have again been included in the latest transfer orders within just 10 months. Most of the latest transfers have reportedly been made within the respective districts, with principals being shifted from one school to another. However, the posting of several officers to GCERT has attracted particular attention. Sources said such a large-scale change of duties at GCERT is being seen for the first time. The developments have also drawn attention because the charge of GCERT is currently with an IAS officer rather than an education department officer. There is also speculation that a large number of recommendations were received for the Class-II transfers, resulting in the orders being issued a day later than expected.Meanwhile, transfers of Class-I officers are also expected, with discussions suggesting that these orders may be issued after Diwali.
