Patna: Properties found outside the tax net during the Patna Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) door-to-door survey will attract a 100% penalty from Jan 2027, the civic body announced on Tuesday.PMC municipal commissioner Yashpal Meena has directed all circles to organise ward-wise special tax assessment camps till Dec 31 to help property owners get their properties assessed and update tax records.According to PMC’s communique, the camps will offer services including new assessment, reassessment, changes or alterations in tax records and payment of outstanding dues. In the first two days of the camps in Patliputra and New Capital circles, more than 60 properties were newly assessed, while 16 properties underwent tax modification and six were reassessed. The camps also helped collect around Rs 14 lakh in property tax from 211 properties.PMC officials added that a 1.5% monthly penalty is applicable on outstanding property tax from Oct. However, properties identified as being outside the tax net during the survey will face a 100% penalty if owners do not get them assessed by Dec 31.Officials said legal action could also be taken against property owners who fail to comply, under the provisions of the Bihar Municipal Act, 2007. This could include attachment of property, freezing of bank accounts, property sale and issuance of arrest warrants, as per the rules.
