Abohar: Panic gripped the main grain market in Abohar subdivision of Fazilka district after a violent clash between two groups on Thursday night. The altercation, which unfolded in full public view, allegedly involved gunfire and vandalism of two luxury vehicles.Vikramjit Singh, a resident of Jammu Basti, sustained serious injuries and was referred to Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital, Faridkot, in a critical condition. Police reached the spot shortly after the incident and have launched an investigation. Abohar MLA Sandeep Jakhar, who visited the scene after learning of the incident, questioned the law and order situation in the state.According to eyewitnesses, two luxury vehicles were parked near Shed No. 7 of the grain market when an Innova arrived. An argument between the occupants of the vehicles soon escalated into a violent clash. Within minutes, members of both groups allegedly attacked the vehicles with lathis and sharp-edged weapons, smashing window panes.During the confrontation, an attempt was allegedly made to run over a youth with a vehicle, leaving him with a serious head injury. Locals also reported hearing two gunshots during the melee.On receiving information, Station House Officer (SHO) Ravindra Singh Bhiti reached the spot along with a police team. However, the accused had fled before the police arrived. Investigators have since collected evidence from the scene and initiated a probe.MLA Sandeep Jakhar later visited the grain market and interacted with shopkeepers and local residents to gather details about the incident. Raising concerns over the city’s deteriorating law and order situation, Jakhar said incidents of assault and hooliganism had become increasingly common in Abohar. Referring to the reported firing, he alleged that the incident exposed serious gaps in the security apparatus and accused the government and administration of not taking public safety seriously. He demanded the immediate identification and arrest of those involved and called for stronger security measures across the city.
