Srinagar, October 1: Five MBBS students/internees of SKIMS Medical College Bemina have been suspended for one week following their alleged involvement in a ragging incident, according to an official order issued by the institution.
The order, issued by the Principal, SKIMS Medical College Bemina, under Order No. 287 SKIMS/MC/Acad of 2026 dated October 1, states that the students were found involved in an incident of ragging, described as a violation of the University Grants Commission (UGC) Anti-Ragging Regulations.
Those named in the order include Shubham Verma (Roll No. 2581, Batch 2023), Sunil Verma (Roll No. 2580, Batch 2023), Shahdev (Roll No. 2706, Batch 2024), Rupal Santal (Batch 2021, Intern) and Lavish Sharma (Batch 2021, Intern).
As recommended by the Anti-Ragging Committee, the five have been suspended from classes and other academic activities, while the internees have also been barred from internship activities for a period of one week.
The institution has additionally imposed a fine of ₹10,000 on each student/internee. The amount has to be deposited in the prescribed CD-10 account, with the payment receipt submitted to the Academic Section within five days of issuance of the order.
The parents/guardians of all five students/internees have been directed to accompany their wards and appear before the Anti-Ragging Committee on October 9, 2026, for further disciplinary proceedings.
The order cautions that failure to comply with the directions may lead to further disciplinary action under the applicable UGC Anti-Ragging Regulations and institutional rules.
The Chief Accounts Officer has also been requested to withhold the stipend of the concerned interns during the period of suspension.
