Gurgaon: A three-year-old boy died after the car he was travelling in with his maternal uncle hit a divider near Sector 21 in the early hours of Sunday. Police said his uncle, who was driving, fell asleep while returning from an ice-cream outing with the child.The accident took place between 2.30am and 3am on the road opposite Sector 21 market. The child was identified as Chand Babu and his maternal uncle as Sarfaraz. Chand, seated in the front, suffered a head injury when the Tata Tiago they were in crashed into the divider.An ambulance reached the spot and took the child to Manipal Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. Police said Sarfaraz was not under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident.The family is originally from Bihar and currently lives in Mullahera, behind Sector 22. Chand’s father, Saddam, is engaged in labour work.Police said the family did not file a complaint in connection with the accident. “Proceedings under Section 194 of Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita were initiated following the child’s death,” an officer said.The child’s postmortem was conducted on Sunday, and his body was handed over to the family for the last rites. Police said a preliminary inquiry indicated the car had hit the divider after the driver apparently became drowsy; officials are examining the circumstances and sequence of events leading up to the crash.
