Kanpur: A massive fire gutted finished shoes and other goods worth lakhs of rupees at a factory in Ashrafabad under the Jajmau police station area of Kanpur on Saturday morning. No casualties were reported.According to police, smoke began billowing from the Kamsafe factory, located opposite Sultan Compound, around 6.10am. The flames soon engulfed a large stock of shoes prepared for export.Police and fire brigade teams rushed to the spot after receiving information about the fire. Two fire tenders were deployed for firefighting operations.The blaze was brought under control within two hours.Fire officer Rahul Nandan said a short circuit has emerged as the suspected cause during the preliminary investigation. However, he added that the actual cause would be confirmed after a detailed probe.Factory owner Mahboob Ilahi claimed losses running into lakhs of rupees.Police have launched an investigation into the incident. The exact financial loss will be determined after an assessment by the concerned department, officials said.
