Buxar: Continuous rain and strong winds since late Friday night disrupted normal life across Buxar district, uprooting trees, damaging power infrastructure and triggering electricity outages in several areas. The outages also caused drinking water shortages as residents were unable to operate electric pumps.In Buxar town, a large tree fell on the main road opposite Buxar Hotel near Model Police Station late on Friday, blocking traffic. Residents alleged that roadside excavation for drain construction may have weakened the tree’s roots, leading to its collapse during the storm. No casualties were reported as the incident occurred at night.Another tree fell on Gola Bazaar Road, blocking access to the Women’s Police Station, Cyber Police Station and SC/ST Police Station located in the Old Police Station complex. Vehicular and pedestrian movement remained affected for several hours.In the Civil Lines-Mathiya area, a tree fell near a judge’s residence, disrupting traffic and damaging electricity infrastructure, resulting in a power outage in the locality.The situation was similar in Dumraon, where several areas remained without electricity for hours. “There has been no power supply in our locality for nearly 24 hours. The outage has also led to a drinking water crisis,” said Bhashmkar Dubey of Tatheri bazaar.In another incident, strong winds toppled an electricity pole and transformer on the Raghunathpur-Tulsi Sthan road near Prince Mini Mall under Brahmpur block. Though no casualties or major property damage were reported, the fallen equipment remained on the road for hours, posing a risk to commuters.Locals said that even by Saturday afternoon, electricity department officials had not started removing the pole and transformer. They demanded immediate action to clear the road and restore services.The widespread power disruptions compounded residents’ difficulties, particularly in areas dependent on electric pumps for drinking water. Many residents were seen waiting for electricity and water supply to be restored.When contacted, SBPDCL managing director SaurabhJorwal said efforts were underway to restore power supply at the earliest.
