Patna: Graduating management students must look beyond financial success and combine professional excellence with ethical responsibility, constitutional values and a strong sense of duty towards society, Law Commission of India chairperson and former Supreme Court judge Justice Dinesh Maheshwari said at the 15th convocation of Chandragupt Institute of Management Patna (CIMP) on Saturday.Delivering the convocation address, Justice Maheshwari urged the graduates to follow the three Ps — purpose, prudence and perseverance — as guiding principles in their professional and personal lives. “Leadership should be measured not merely by financial achievements but also by its contribution to people and institutions,” he said.Drawing lessons from the Wright Brothers and Professor Langley, he said failures should not be treated as dead ends but as information that can help improve future efforts. Using the analogy of an orchestra, he said that individual excellence has meaning only when accompanied by discipline, coordination and harmony.Justice Maheshwari also asked the young managers to develop the habit of “pausing” before taking crucial decisions so that conscience can distinguish between what is convenient and what is right. He further called for a shift from an excessive consciousness of rights to a stronger consciousness of duties towards society and the nation.The convocation saw degrees conferred on the graduating students, with Raj Laxmi receiving the gold medal for best scholastic performance and Anish Ahsan the gold medal for best all-round performance.Presenting the institute’s annual report, CIMP director Rana Singh highlighted its growing academic, research and entrepreneurial footprint.The institute has supported 374 startups since January 2023, filed 31 patents, completed 67 social-impact assessment projects and signed 23 MoUs during the academic year.CIMP’s PGDM programme is NBA-accredited and recognised as equivalent to an MBA by AIU. The institute has introduced specialisation in artificial intelligence and analytics and has applied for AACSB accreditation.The state govt’s scholarship support has enabled 80-90% of fees of the PGDM batch to be waived, while CIMP has been designated a lead knowledge institution under NITI Aayog’s State Support Mission for policy research linked to the vision of Viksit Bihar 2037.CM Samrat Choudhary, in a message read at the ceremony, urged graduates to deploy their knowledge and skills for the state’s and the country’s development. The students also took a pledge committing themselves to ethical conduct, responsible citizenship and service to the nation.
