Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) held a dharna near the chief electoral officer’s office at Nirvachan Bhawan on Friday over alleged electoral-roll irregularities.The protesters demanded transparency and an independent probe into Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise, alleging that unauthorised additions and deletions threatened the constitutional right to vote and undermined public faith in democratic institutions.APCC raised concerns over ‘Vote Chori’ and demanded the immediate resignation of chief election commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, criminal proceedings and an independent inquiry into whether decisions were influenced externally.The party sought the deferment of all upcoming elections, a freeze on the SIR exercise, restoration of the electoral roll to the Jan 2025 list and the formation of an independent inquiry commission.It also demanded that all physical and digital records related to the revision be transferred to Supreme Court’s custody to prevent tampering or destruction.APCC further called for the repeal of the 2023 law governing the appointment of election commissioners and its replacement with a framework drafted with civil society participation.The party said every eligible citizen must be assured of electoral integrity, without arbitrary deletions or unlawful additions to voter lists.
