Pune: A pipeline fault, the second incident under PMC limits in a week, at Warje Water Treatment Plant on late Tuesday night led to disruptions in water supply to Bhusari Colony, areas along the Paud Road, and parts of Pashan on Wednesday.This was the second such incident under Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC)’s jurisdiction in a week. On Sept 18, a pipeline in Balewadi was damaged due to the road works. At the time, several areas had faced water supply disruption for two days.PMC’s water supply department on Wednesday started repairing the pipeline at Warje Water Treatment Plant, and it continued till late evening. The supply disruption impacted the areas like Bhusari Colony, Paramhansnagar, areas along Paud Road towards Chandni Chowk and various pockets in Pashan.Officials said, “A rising main line that supplied water from the plant to the Chandni Chowk overhead tank was damaged due to road repair works. A soil testing work was underway for a proposed DP road. The water pipeline underneath was damaged during drilling work. The supply to the entire line was shut to assist the repairs.”When asked when the supply would be resumed to normal, officials said the entire line was emptied to repair the damaged part. Since it was a main line, it took time to clear the water. Additional teams were deployed to finish the works by late evening, the official said.The supply, however, did not resume till late Wednesday night.Local corporators said sudden damages to the pipeline and water supply closure led to hardships for citizens. The messages were distributed among people about possible delays in restoration of water supply. The administration should have done an inspection of the entire stretch before starting the drilling work for the DP road, corporators said.Prabhat Thorat, a resident from Paud Road, said this was not the first instance of damage to a water pipeline leading to problems for citizens. “The pipelines across the city were facing repeated damages. A pipeline was damaged recently in Bhusari Colony for Metro works. Before that, a pipeline was damaged near Kothrud Depot,” Thorat said.Harshad Kale, another resident, said the administration has been lacking a detailed map of underground utilities, which was leading to repeated damages to water and other pipelines during infra works.
