Kolkata: More than a month after a fire at a Free School Street lodge, work to install fire safety measures are likely to start at a lawyer’s chamber in Florence Mansion, the building where nine people were killed in the blaze, over the weekend.To reopen, the law firm, located on the first floor, has to follow a compliance list from the fire department, including unobstructing doors, high sensitivity automatic fire detector alarm system, adequate number of portable fire extinguisher, detector with response indicator for false ceiling, natural ventilation and alternative exits. It also has to install the entire electricity line, starting from the meter to the premises and all around, afresh. It also has to keep an alternative power back-up. Counsel for lawyer Niladri Bhattacharjee, who owns the legal firm, submitted before Justice Krishna Rao on Tuesday that he was ready to make the changes and would need four hours every day, preferably from 1 pm to 5 pm, to work for at least 10 days.
