Agartala: A 27-year-old man was booked by police for allegedly attacking his father with a sharp weapon after he refused to give him more money to buy drugs at Durgapur village in Gandacherra, in Tripura’s Dhalai district, on Monday.According to police, the accused, Atindra Tripura, allegedly attacked his father, Kanta Tripura, who works in the Drinking Water and Sanitation Department. The attack left Kanta with a serious ear injury and caused heavy bleeding.Kanta was taken to Gandacherra sub-divisional hospital for treatment before he lodged a formal complaint with police.In his complaint, Kanta alleged that Atindra has been struggling with substance abuse since 2017 and frequently asked him for money to buy drugs. He said he had often given his son between Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 a day.Kanta also alleged that Atindra had increasingly begun selling household items to fund his drug use. On Monday, Atindra first asked him for Rs 700, he said. Later, when Atindra returned and demanded another Rs 1,000, Kanta refused, allegedly triggering the attack.Police have booked Atindra in connection with the assault and are investigating the case.
