Patna: Demanding accountability and stronger security for girl students, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the student wing of the ruling BJP in Bihar, took out a protest march in Jamui on Tuesday over the molestation of a minor student and the circulation of a video of the incident on social media.Carrying banners and raising slogans, ABVP activists passed through several major roads and intersections, drawing attention to the safety of school- and college-going girls. The protesters demanded that the police conduct a detailed investigation and identify all those who played a role in the incident as well as the circulation of the video.The activists said the matter was particularly serious because the victim was a minor and stressed that her identity and privacy must be protected throughout the investigation. They also demanded action against people who recorded, shared or circulated the footage with the intention of humiliating or exploiting the student.The protestors said the incident had caused concern among students and parents and called on the district administration to respond swiftly. They demanded that the investigation should establish the role of every person connected with the episode and those found guilty must face action under the law.A major concern raised during the march was the security of female students travelling to educational institutions. Rita Kumari, a student who joined the protest, demanded increased police patrolling around schools, colleges and coaching centres, particularly on routes used by students, chowks and intersections during the morning and evening hours.She also urged the administration to identify vulnerable stretches where students could face harassment or other threats and ensure a visible police presence in such areas.Another protester, Babita Kumari, said incidents targeting students could undermine their sense of safety while travelling to and from educational institutions. She called for preventive policing alongside action in the present cases, including Patna, Muzaffarpur and other parts of the state and country.The ABVP activists said they would continue to raise the issue until the authorities took action against those responsible and strengthened security arrangements for girl students in Jamui and surrounding areas.
