New Delhi: A demand of Rs 2.5 lakh for a space to perform Ramleela ended with an executive engineer being apprehended by the CBI in a bribery case Monday. The accused, Vedpal Meena, had demanded money in exchange for allotting a ground for a Ramleela performance in northeast Delhi’s Nand Nagri.He allegedly agreed to accept the amount in two instalments from the complainant. Following a complaint, the CBI laid a trap by staging a handover of the first instalment– Rs 1 lakh– and apprehending the accused as he reiterated his demand and accepted the money. The accused was an employee of Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board, Seemapuri.The executive engineer’s house was then searched, leading to cash worth Rs 41 lakh being seized. Further investigation is in progress.
