Patna: A 28-year-old youth climbed a mobile phone tower in Rajwara village under Musahari police station limits in Muzaffarpur district on Monday, demanding that his wife be brought back and allowed to live with him. The drama continued for several hours before police persuaded him to come down after assuring him that efforts would be made to address his grievance.According to police, the youth, identified as Ricky Kumar, a resident of Rajwara village, climbed the tower at around 7.30am. His action drew a large crowd of onlookers, prompting police to rush to the spot. A Dial 112 team and personnel from Musahari police station launched a rescue and counselling operation, continuously speaking to Ricky and urging him to descend safely.Ricky claimed that he had been in a relationship with the woman for nearly five to six years after they met in college. The two married at a temple in Chakia, East Champaran, on April 10 this year. He alleged that following the marriage, his wife’s family took her away and had since prevented her from living with him.Ricky claimed he had repeatedly contacted her family members and requested that she be allowed to return, but his efforts were unsuccessful. He also alleged that he was assaulted during one such attempt. “I am tired now. I will not come down until my wife is allowed to stay with me,” Ricky shouted from the top of the tower.Musahari SHO Subodh Kumar Mehta said the matter appeared to be linked to a love relationship dispute. “The youth demanded that his wife be brought to him. After counselling and persuasion, we succeeded in bringing him down safely,” the SHO said.He said their immediate priority was to ensure the man’s safety. Further inquiry is being conducted to verify the claims made by Ricky and ascertain the circumstances surrounding the dispute, he added.
