Noida: Residents of F Block in Sector 50 have written to police commissioner Laxmi Singh, requesting her immediate intervention in the issue of illegal parking, which is rampant in the area.The letter, which was also sent to the Noida Authority CEO, read that unauthorised parking behind Central 50 Mall has slowed down traffic on the road and blocked easy access of those who live in nearby residential societies, like Mahagun Maestro, Megdutam Apartments, Metro Apartments, Omaxe Twin Towers and Mahagun Maple.Not only has the issue worsened traffic, it has also raised concerns of safety among the residents of the housing societies.They said drinking in the parked cars is common in the area, which has now led to a rise in street crimes and crimes involving women.“The unrestricted parking behind Central 50 Mall has led to significant traffic delays and safety hazards, particularly on weekends. Also, there has been a noticeable increase in incidents of mobile and chain snatching in the vicinity. Women, including those employed as domestic help, have expressed fear for their safety while between the residential societies and the mall due to occurrences of eve-teasing and harassment,” said Rajiva Singh, a resident of Sector 50.Singh said given the area’s proximity to educational institutions and it being densely populated, increased patrolling, particularly during the evening and on weekends, may help in tackling the congestion and reducing incidents of crime. He also urged strict enforcement measures against unauthorised parking — including towing of illegally parked cars — to ensure smooth traffic flow, improved street lighting to enhance safety of women, and monitoring of liquor outlets near the mall to address public safety concerns.
