Pune: A 19-year-old college student was killed and his friend suffered severe injuries after their motorcycle hit a pole on the footpath near Pimpri Chinchwad College of Engineering in Akurdi on Friday afternoon.Ravet police identified the deceased as Shashank Landge of Maske Vasti in Ravet. His friend, Yash Avhad (18), was undergoing treatment at a nearby hospital. Avhad lodged a complaint with the police on Saturday.An officer from Ravet police said Landge and Avhad were riding a friend’s motorcycle towards Akurdi around 2 pm on Friday. When they reached the college, Landge lost control of the motorcycle and crashed into a pole on the footpath.“Both suffered severe injuries in the accident. They were taken to a hospital, where Landge was pronounced dead by doctors,” the officer said.On Sept 19, in an accident, an assistant police sub-inspector (49) was knocked down by an unidentified vehicle while he was crossing the Pune-Solapur highway in Uruli Kanchan after having dinner at an eatery around 12.30am on Saturday.Ganesh Ratan Dabhade, a resident of Saswad in Purandar taluka, was attached to the Uruli Kanchan police station. He was returning home from Sassoon General Hospital, where he had gone for the autopsy of a corpse that was recovered from a water body, police said.
