Patna: A 108-year-old water tower near Miller High School on Beerchand Patel Path in Patna is set for a major makeover with plans to restore the historic structure and develop its premises as a public space.Patna Municipal Corporation has invited tenders for the Rs 3.38-crore renovation, beautification and development project. Work is expected to begin after selection of the executing agency.The project will cover around 14,400 sq ft and include a cafeteria spread over nearly 2,500 sq ft.Urban development and housing Minister Nitish Mishra said on Sunday the initiative aimed to preserve Patna’s heritage while adding modern facilities and attractions.Built between 1915 and 1918, the water tower stands nearly 130 feet tall and has a storage capacity of around one lakh gallons. Its distinctive design and floating indicator reflect the engineering technology of the period.Mishra said the redevelopment would give the century-old structure a new identity as a heritage landmark and public destination while preserving its historical character.
